WaterWorks FunFest

Free, Family Merrymaking Exploring the Science Behind the Flush

Fort Wayne, Indiana — City Utilities invites residents on a captivating journey exploring “The Science Behind the Flush” during  WaterWorks FunFest. Festivities are set to unfold on July 29 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the City Utilities Water Pollution Control Plant, 2601 Dwenger Avenue.

The FREE, family-friendly event encourages attendees to unravel the mysteries and fascinating science behind wastewater treatment. Hands-on experiments, behind-the-scenes tours, big truck demonstrations, plus games and activities for all ages make it a jam-packed day of discovery.

Guided tours will get started in the screening and high-powered pump building where the treatment process begins. They continue in the high-tech control room that monitors and operates the 100 million- gallons-per-day treatment process and systems throughout the community. They close with a “big finish” in the always-popular lab where a high-powered microscope brings the hardworking, sewage-eating bugs, so important to the treatment process, up close and larger than life.

We are pleased to announce partner-exhibitors joining the event from Science Central, Allen County Soil and Water Conservation, Purdue University Fort Wayne, and Animal Care and Control. Our City Utilities team will show off the equipment used to examine and televise pipes, our powerful vacuum trucks, our deep-rock tunnel display, touch-and-try experiments, stormwater-runoff demonstrations, and games with prizes.

WaterWorks FunFest promotes scientific knowledge about wastewater treatment and its vital role in public health and environmental sustainability.

“We are excited to present ‘The Science Behind the Flush’ at this year’s WaterWorks FunFest,” said Brian Robinson, Chief Superintendent of Facilities. “Our aim is to provide an engaging and educational experience that entertains and instills a deeper understanding and appreciation for the treatment process and the efforts to protect our rivers. We invite families to join us for a day of exploration, discovery and fun!”

That fun can spread to the tummy, too, as food trucks, Drop it Like it’s Tot and Sweets on the Streets, will be on hand.

City Utilities is grateful for the event’s environmentally conscious sponsors: Fox Contractors, CL&S Landscaping and Quasar Energy Group.
