Mayor Tucker Celebrates $95.5 Million in 2025 Utility Improvements

Fort Wayne, Indiana — Fort Wayne is a vibrant city, and its strong, resilient infrastructure is one of its superpowers. In 2025, Fort Wayne is investing $95.5 million in essential utility improvements to ensure the systems that support our neighborhoods, businesses and growth remain reliable long into the future.

Today, Mayor Sharon Tucker joined residents and City Utilities’ staff in the Sunny Meadows neighborhood to unveil 2025 improvement projects in stormwater, water and sanitary sewer systems. The investment will strengthen neighborhoods, support businesses and build a stronger community.

The upcoming work marks the first phase of multi-year drainage and stormwater improvements to be constructed in Sunny Meadows, with work set to begin this spring.

“Neighborhoods continue to be the focus in all of the major divisions in the City of Fort Wayne. It’s a demonstration of our commitment to provide excellent services to the public,” said Mayor Tucker. “City Utilities is using innovation and best practices on water, sewer, and stormwater improvement projects throughout the community. We’re intentional on doing our part to protect the environment while also positioning our great city for future growth and being responsible stewards of ratepayer dollars.”

Sunny Meadows is not alone, numerous other 2025 projects are already unfolding in several neighborhoods, with visible water main installations taking place on North Anthony Boulevard, Stellhorn Road, and the Victoria Park and Oxford neighborhoods. Stormwater work is underway in the Southgate Plaza area, Airport Expressway/Ardmore Avenue, and the Elmcrest neighborhood.

This year will also see additional stormwater and drainage improvements in the neighborhoods of Maplewood Terrace along the Bullerman Drain, Country Club Gardens, Lincolndale, Tamarack, Wallen, and Fairfield Terrace/Belmont, as well as along Airport Drive, and three phases of the Pierson Drain in northeast Fort Wayne.

Sanitary Sewer improvements will rehab more than nine miles of pipes. Sewer rehab to 72-inch pipes along Hanna, Baker, Nelson, and Fairfield/Rose/Wayne will occur. Additionally, lift stations will be upgraded on Paulding, Indianapolis, Brentwood, St. Joe Center, Maplewood, Golfview, Feighner, Mayhew and Oak Point roads.

Nine miles of new water mains will replace those beyond their useful life in the neighborhoods of Westwood Fairway, Westmoor, Hamilton, Mt. Vernon Park, and Lafayette Place and along Lima Road, East Pettit Avenue and West State Boulevard.

Meanwhile, the installation of water main extensions will improve redundancy in neighborhoods along Bass Road, Carroll Road, St. Joe Road, and Washington Center Road.

“When we invest in strong infrastructure, we’re not just fixing pipes, we’re supporting the small businesses, protecting homes from floods and ensuring that future growth can succeed,” said Kumar Menon, Director of City Utilities. “These improvements focus on strengthening neighborhoods and key commercial corridors vital to the city’s economic growth and quality of life.”

The nearly $100 million investment reflects the city’s ongoing dedication to building a stronger, more resilient community for everyone.
